HOW IT WORKS:
Consultation and Planning:
When you come to a consultation at ROXY Plastic Surgery, Dr. Grawe will determine if you are a good candidate for Juvederm® treatments. You will discuss how Juvederm® works and go over which areas can be improved. Juvederm is a hyaluronic acid which is a natural component of your own collagen - this is why your results look so natural!
You will be given ice to place over the areas to be treated and your skin is cleaned off with an alcohol preparation pad. Dr. Grawe will numb up the area so that you will not feel any pain during the treatment. Then very small injections are made to deposit the Juvederm® (hyaluronic acid- component of collagen). The whole process takes only minutes. You will see instant results – the area you were concerned with will be completely filled out!

There is no real “down-time” with this type of treatment. You can perform your normal activities the same day. You will notice an instant result. Some people have minor bruising and swelling which will go away quickly. You should use ice the day of the procedure to keep this to a minimum. On the day you come in, you will have a fuller face without wrinkles or full beautiful lips!
Remember that everyone is different. Recovery times and progression is not the same for everyone. The times stated are typical for healthy individuals healing from this surgery. The normal progression of healing may be different for those with health problems, smokers, and those who have unforeseen complications after surgery.
With every treatment there are risks involved including bleeding and infection – but these risks are very rare with Juvederm® injections:
- Asymmetry: Your face already has asymmetries to it naturally. With Juvederm®, you can usually make this asymmetry better but there still may be differences between the sides.
- Bruising: this is minimal and can be decreased by not taking blood thinning medications (advil, motrin, Coumadin, plavix, lovenox, herbal medications, vitamin E) and by using ice before and after the procedure.
- Bumps along the path: When Juvederm® is injected, there may be small bumps that can be felt along the path of the injection. Dr. Grawe will show you how to massage these away. Your body soon absorbs these components into your own collagen and acts like it belongs to your body.
- Continued wrinkle or depression: If you do not have full correction of the treated area, you may just need more Juvederm® to fill this area out. You can have another treatment at anytime to get the look you want!
Before and After
Frequently Asked Questions
What are dermal fillers?
Most dermal fillers, like Juvederm®are made from hyaluronic acid (HA). This substance is naturally present in our own skin but is lost throughout the aging process. It helps to form collagen and retain water in the area where it exists – causing the area to look full and soft.
Are fillers safe?
Because HA is a natural substance found in our skin, it does not usually cause any type of allergic reaction. Your body incorporates into the product and looks at it like it is its own.
How do fillers work?
Fillers work by restoring natural volume to the area that is injected which has been lost during the normal aging process. The hyaluronic acid which is injected into the area is recognized by your body and your natural tissues work with it to create collagen and retain water to create a full, plump look.
Can anyone have this treatment?
Most people are able to have filler treatment. You may not have filler placed if you are pregnant or breastfeeding or have an infection in the area to be injected. You should stop any blood thinning medications before your injections.
Is the treatment painful?
Dr. Grawe will numb the area with either topical or local anesthetic (your choice) so the filler placement is pain free.
How long does the treatment last?
Typically, fillers last from 6-8 months. However, the more you maintain the filler, the longer it begins to last.
Can the treatment cause any long-term problems?
As hyaluronic acid is naturally broken down by the body over time, there are no long term complications.
Where is the procedure performed?
Dr. Grawe will perform the filler treatment in her office located in Powell, OH
